Today our group started the morning with some very vivid birthing play. I wanted to set the ground and get them excited for the conversations we would be having in our afternoon about the birth of the green blooded babies, so I had set up a "birthing room" before playschool. They loved it and took it in so many directions. My favorite quote of the day came from my friend Sibyl who said: "You all have to get out of the birthing tub now. My baby's about to be born so there's gonna be a lot of blood." So many babies were born this morning and we each took a turn to play the Midwife, and each of us had many opportunities to be the one birthing. So much all of these friends already know about birth, and the stories to weave about birthing.
So exciting for me to witness all their Ways of Knowing.
After our birthing stories, it was time to transition outside and expand our ideas about birth and hold witness to the many ways that the earth gives birth. We worked for a bit to haul wood chips from the mountain sized pile in the driveway to the plants and beds around the meadow and gardens.
About that time our bellies started rumbling and the corn bread that we had mixed and set in the oven earlier started to smell pretty yummy. We gathered for our lunch circle, Gave Thanks, and gobbled up our hot soup and fresh-from-the-oven warm bread.
While I cleaned up from lunch, they decided it was time for a show so we opened up the Drag Closet and they got a chance to get all fancy for a few.
After the show we transitioned outside for the rest of the day. We puttered around the meadows and gardens, alternating between playing, working, and snacking until it was time to say goodbye. The group created so many interesting story lines around Wood Chip Mountain, and were entranced by the steaming heat they could find by digging deep enough under the surface of the mountain. Wood Chip Mountain became a volcano at some point, and it was curious to see how they all worked together to put out the volcano.
Enjoy our memories of the day...
