Monday January 29, 2018
Mondays are integrated days for the Moon Blossom and Moon Flower friend circles here at the Moon's Nest. We started the day with some sensory play. For our Hearth Arts, we worked together to prepare and make our favorite play dough recipe, and then used our morning Art Circle for cutting, molding, squishing, and shaping our dough. This group is happiest when engaging together in sensory play, and these kiddos have the most amazing capacity for turning ceder oil scented dough into a forest.
After Art Circle we had some free play, and then came together for a mid morning meal of GF oats, almonds, hemp seeds raisins, and just a touch of maple syrup and cooked down apples.
The rest of our day was spent outside in the playschool yard, in deep connection with our friends the earthworms, and the soil. We dug and moved earth all afternoon in search of worms and other crawly creatures, building worm nests, and settling worms to work in new spots throughout the garden. We put together and established our outdoor worm bin today as well, now that midwinter has come.
In the garden we observed a shift in our sleepy beds, finding an increased abundance of Calendula flowers in bloom (which have been sleepily blooming all Winter), leaf buds on the trees full of the promise of this year's tree canopy, as well as delicate and bendy basket making shoots ready for harvest.
We practiced harvesting with ritual and ceremony, grooming our plum tree a bit, and gathering enough bendy wisps to make some baskets. We set them to soak, and we'll have an opportunity next week to work with them and learn some basic weaving skills.
Okay, enjoy our photo journal of the day!
*(I've recently begun a transition away from Apple Photos to Google Photos, and my libraries are still merging. As a result, my photo uploads are still a bit wonky and out of order. Oh Technology, you offer us angst and ease so abundantly. Thanks for bearing with me and the photo journals until I complete the transition.)
And, a new feature of our Adventure Stories...video clips from our days!!
